VETA, VTA join forces to boost skills,jobs

ZANZIBAR: The Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) and the Vocational Training Authority (VTA) Zanzibar are set to deepen cooperation to expand access to quality vocational education and practical skills training across Tanzania.

VETA Director General, CPA Anthony Kasore, said the partnership was critical in ensuring that vocational training equips citizens with practical skills needed to participate effectively in economic and social activities.

Mr Kasore made the remarks on friday after visiting VETA and VTA exhibition booths during the Kizimkazi Festival held at Dimbani grounds in South Unguja, Zanzibar.

“I thank our colleagues at VTA for continuing to cooperate with us. We will ensure that our cooperation is sustained and strengthened day by day so that people in the Isles and Mainland receive quality vocational training that enables them to participate fully in economic and social activities,” he said.

He said stronger collaboration between the two institutions would help expand vocational education opportunities and ensure training programmes remain responsive to the changing demands of the labour market.

Mr Kasore also thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for visiting the VETA exhibition booth during the festival and for her continued efforts to expand vocational training colleges across the country.

“We thank the President for the great emphasis she has placed on expanding vocational training colleges. We also thank all leaders who visited our booth and provided advice and recommendations. We have received their views and will work on them,” he said.

He said VETA had received recommendations from graduates to increase the number of colleges offering mobile phone repair courses and extend the duration of the programmes to give trainees more time to acquire practical skills.

Mr Kasore said the proposals would be considered as part of efforts to ensure vocational training responds to the needs of trainees and the labour market.

He said VETA’s participation in the Kizimkazi Festival had also provided an important platform for the public to learn about vocational education and the services offered by VETA colleges.

He thanked the Mwanamke Initiative for inviting VETA to participate in the festival alongside VTA, saying the initiative had helped increase public awareness of available vocational training opportunities.

The festival brought together various stakeholders and provided an opportunity for institutions to showcase their services, interact with the public and promote opportunities available to communities.
