Uhuru Torch leader urges communities to form anti-corruption clubs

MWANZA: UHURU Torch leader, Wazo Mwang’onda, has instructed the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) to encourage various groups to establish anti-corruption clubs so as to increase public awareness and participation in the fight against graft.

He made the call yesterday while launching an anti-corruption student club at Lutale Secondary School at Magu District in Mwanza, stressing the importance of spreading anti-corruption education to various groups in the community.

He said anti-corruption education should not end at schools alone, but should reach people from various cadres, citing the example of motorcyclists who he said needed to be educated about the effects of corruption and how it could affect national development.

“Groups like motorcyclists should be educated about the effects of corruption so that they too can establish their own clubs or groups and participate fully in denouncing corrupt practices,” he said.

In addition, he urged the club’s students to become ambassadors of anti-corruption education by conveying the message to their fellow students as well as their parents and relatives who have not joined the clubs.

Mr Mwang’onda stressed that the fight against corruption requires the cooperation of the entire community, explaining that education and awareness are among the important ways to build a generation that hates and rejects corrupt practices.

Similarly, he commended the Tanzania Rural Roads Agency (TARURA) in Magu District for the successful construction of the 14.7-metre-long Sagani bridge on the Ng’atelesha-Sagani-Kinango road in Magu District.

He said the government has continued to invest in improving road and bridge infrastructure in the country with the aim of enabling citizens to travel and transport their crops safely regardless of the challenges of the rainy season.

He said the completion of the bridge is an important step for the people of Kandawe and Nyigogo who have long been facing transportation challenges due to the lack of good infrastructure connectivity between those areas.
