Tanzania’s ruling party CCM expels the just resigned Vice President, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi
The former Vice President of Tanzania, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi who recently resigned from his position, has been expelled from the ruling party.
The Secretary General of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Dr Asha Rose Migiro announced in Dodoma that, following the party disciplinary committee meeting, it was unanimously decided to throw Dr Nchimbi out of their party, for what was described to be ‘unruly behavior!’
Dr Nchimbi, who was the presidential running mate during the highly controversial Tanzanian general election of 2025, automatically became the Vice President after the electoral commission declared that CCM won the polls.
After becoming Vice President, Emmanuel Nchimbi somehow took a different route from his party, showing a stand with local citizens and the opposition in their quest for a new constitution and major reforms in the country’s political scene.
A local Kiswahili weekly tabloid “Mwana Halisi” was recently banned by the Tanzanian government after it published a lead story claiming that the Vice President was being forced to resign but refused to bow to the pressure.
A few days later, on the 25th of August 2026, Dr Nchimbi announced his resignation from the Vice Presidency as well as politics.
The state house responded by admitting to have received Dr Nchimbi’s resignation letter and that his request has been granted.
However, less than 24 hours later, his party, CCM, sat for an emergency meeting in Dodoma and reached the decision to jettison him out of their ship.
Nchimbi has held several ministerial positions in the past governments in addition to serving as ambassador to Egypt and Brazil.
