DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has been commended for its steadfast leadership, commitment and significant contribution to peace, security and stability in the Southern African region as it concludes its three-year tenure as a member of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ Troika.

The recognition was made on August 15, 2026, during meetings of Senior Officials of the SADC Organ Troika and the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) held in Durban, South Africa, ahead of the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government.

Tanzania was represented at the meetings by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, James Kinyasi Millya, and Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, as part of the Troika Member States.

Speaking during the MCO meeting, Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr George Chaponda, commended Tanzania for its commitment and leadership throughout its three-year tenure in the Organ Troika.

“Let me, in a special way, thank the United Republic of Tanzania for her commitment during the three years of serving the region as a member of the Organ Troika,” Dr Chaponda said.

He said the SADC Organ Troika had greatly benefited from Tanzania’s leadership, particularly during a period characterised by complex peace and security challenges across the region.

Dr Chaponda said Tanzania led the Organ during a particularly demanding period that involved the deployment of peace support operations and the management of other security challenges requiring strong regional coordination, political commitment and collective action among member states.

He said Tanzania’s contribution had strengthened regional efforts to address peace and security challenges while promoting cooperation among SADC member states.

The recognition was also echoed by Malawi’s Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Chauncy Simwaka, who described Tanzania as a key pillar of the SADC Organ Troika during Malawi’s tenure as Chair of the Organ.

Tanzania’s three-year tenure in the Troika has seen the country participate in regional efforts aimed at maintaining peace, security and stability, particularly through SADC mechanisms for conflict prevention, management and resolution.

The meetings in Durban form part of preparations for the 46th Ordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government, which brings together leaders from member states to deliberate on regional integration, peace, security and socio-economic development.
