NSSF cherishes Nyerere Bridge in Dar as one of its beneficial projects it funded

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Director General of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Masha Mshomba, has highlighted the achievements of social and development projects implemented and managed by the fund, including the Nyerere Bridge in Kigamboni, whose management, he said, has continued to demonstrate tangible benefits.

Speaking on September 21, 2026, at a working session organised by the Office of the Treasury Registrar in collaboration with NSSF and attended by media editors, Mshomba said the Nyerere Bridge had generated 150.04bn/- in user fees since 2016.

In the manufacturing sector, Mshomba said Mkulazi Sugar Factory in Morogoro Region had generated a profit of 4.56bn/- during the 2025/26 financial year while continuing to create employment opportunities for Tanzanians.

He said NSSF’s five-year development plan was focused on implementing the priorities outlined in the National Development Vision 2050 in order to promote sustainable prosperity for citizens.

Under its new five-year plan covering the period from July 2026 to July 2031, Mshomba said the fund aimed to register new members and increase contribution collections by providing education to various social groups that need to join the scheme.

Mshomba added that over the previous six-year period, the value of the fund had grown to more than four trillion shillings, attributing the achievement to an increase in membership and stronger measures to control financial leakages.

Meanwhile, Tanzania Editors’ Forum (TEF) Chairperson Deodatus Balile commended the Office of the Treasury Registrar for resuming meetings with editors, pledging strong cooperation with NSSF in educating the public about projects that directly affect citizens.
