In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with job losses looming as N3.9 trillion debt may cripple several firms.

Another headline features the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, warning that any return of fuel subsidy would cripple Northern Nigeria, saying it would end road, gas and fertiliser projects and push northerners back into poverty.

Vanguard also reports that the police in Delta State have arrested the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, and four others over the death of Unity Adeda, a deputy director in the ministry.

Moving to another newspaper, The Guardian reports that as Nigerians join the rest of the world to mark World Heart Day, experts have identified the high cost of care, out-of-pocket spending, dearth of equipment, severe shortage of specialists and poor emergency services as major obstacles to the management and treatment of the increasing burden of heart disease in the country.

The Punch reports that former President Olusegun Obasanjo said the poor suffer the most in corrupt societies, stressing that illicit wealth is inimical to development and progress.

Lastly, The Nation leads with the APC opening peace moves in Benue, Oyo, Osun, Niger and Kwara, where the party has been hit by litigation, defections and threats of defections by aggrieved chieftains.
