ARUSHA: ARUMERU District Commissioner Neema Lugangira has pledged to strengthen security, resolve land disputes and improve social services as part of efforts to accelerate development in the district.

She made the commitment on Friday  (October 9,2026) after officially taking over the Arumeru District Commissioner’s Office, outlining her priorities, including improving environmental cleanliness, strengthening supervision of development projects and ensuring discipline in the use of public funds.

Ms Lugangira said resolving land conflicts and maintaining peace were essential to creating an environment that supports economic growth and development.

“My intention is to ensure that Meru District grows economically and developmentally, with security guaranteed, land disputes resolved and people working together to develop our district,” she said.

She also challenged Arumeru to identify its contribution to the implementation of Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, which seeks to build a 1 trillion US dollar economy.

She said her ambition was to make Arumeru a destination offering investment opportunities, quality services and sustainable development.

“I want an Arumeru of opportunities, quality services and development, a district that investors and stakeholders are eager to visit and return to. We must love and protect our district and work with local and international partners to develop it,” she said.

Ms Lugangira said her work would be guided by three key strategies including  Arumeru on the Global Stage, Arumeru Development and Let’s Meet on Site, reflecting her ambition to raise the district’s profile internationally, accelerate development and strengthen direct engagement with communities.

The district commissioner also announced plans to conduct ward-by-ward visits over the next two months to assess conditions on the ground and hear residents’ concerns directly, rather than relying solely on reports from offices.

“I want to visit the wards to understand the actual situation and hear residents’ challenges first-hand,” she said.

She urged residents to protect their district and collaborate with stakeholders from within and outside the country to make Arumeru more attractive to investors.

Ms Lugangira further emphasised the need to sustain accountability in public spending, noting that the Arusha District Council and Meru District Council continued to receive clean audit reports from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG).
